Do you ever feel like God is hiding from you? Maybe, in the moments when all senses point to His absence, you can’t quite comprehend how it’s possible that He might be there at all. If this sounds familiar–and especially if such questions keep coming up again and again in your spiritual journey – then it might be time to reevaluate what your understanding of who God is and how knowing Him works.
Many have been running from an invisible presence they don’t even understand; however, what the Bible reveals about us being able to know God personally on a deeper level is available for those willing to take an honest look.
What Does the Bible Say About knowing God Personally?
Scripture in the Bible reveals about how to know God. It reveals that God is eager for us to know Him. Knowing God is essential for our Christian faith and life, and Scripture tells us we can only do it through Jesus Christ. In John 17:3, Jesus says, “And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” This verse shows that eternal life comes through knowing God and His Son, Jesus Christ.
We can also learn more about knowing God by looking at stories in the Bible. For example, when Moses asked to see the glory of God, he was told, “no one can see me and live” (Exodus 33:20). Yet Moses could stay in the cleft of a rock while God passed by. Afterward, Moses declared that “the Lord is a compassionate and gracious God” (Exodus 34:6). This story shows us that although we cannot always see Him with our physical eyes or understand Him fully with our finite minds, we can still get to know Him through His compassion and grace.
Seek a Personal Relationship with God
The Bible teaches us how to seek intimacy with God by instructing us to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17) and draw near to Him (James 4:8). These principles show that Scripture strongly emphasizes the importance of getting to know God deeply and personally through prayerful conversations with Him.
Scripture clarifies knowing God is not just an intellectual pursuit, but an ongoing relationship built through prayerful communication and a deeper understanding of who He is as revealed in His Word. Therefore, it would be worthwhile for all believers to take time out of their day to pray earnestly, read scripture carefully, and grow closer in their relationship with their heavenly Father, who desires an intimate relationship with each one of them.
