“Be careful not to allow anyone to captivate you through an empty, deceitful philosophy that is according to human traditions and the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ” (Colossians 2:8, NET).
Why are we led away from believing in the God that our parents taught us about? Who, or what, led us away? I was raised by my grandparents and my grandpa was my greatest teacher. His faith in God was unwavering, and it showed in every attribute of his life.
In one of my visits to the hospital in his last days, he recited the words to the song “I believe”, sang by Jimmy Fortune. There were tears in his eyes as he recited those words telling me how he believes in Heaven, and in a man named Jesus.
Grandpa had always prayed for me. He knew that I had spent my life wandering and he wanted me to come home. He was 93 and in the last stretch of his days on earth, all he could think about was the lost souls who need Jesus.
It hit me that day, as I listened to him, just how much he believed in God and the Son who had been sent to earth to be the Savior of the world. Why had I doubted?
Grandpa got to see his prayers for me answered before he went to Heaven as I stopped wandering. After wasting forty years of my life, I now have made it my mission to pray for others who are wandering. So, who or what led you away? Do you think that they know better?
Something to think about!
